Jonathon Wells is a fine art photographer and geologist whose work merges scientific understanding with visual inquiry. Since 2002, he has created photo-geologic composites that reveal the structural foundations beneath everyday landscapes.
Working across the Earth Structure, Urban Foundation, and Altered Ground series, Wells focuses on sites where geology and land use intersect. Drawing on field investigation, geologic mapping, archival research, and photography, he constructs digitally layered images that align observed surface conditions with informed interpretations of the subsurface.
Wells’ practice bridges disciplines, translating geologic knowledge into visual form and offering a deeper understanding of place.
